Internet Use Policy

The Simi Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) has an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for technology resources, including internet access, school computers and devices, and personal devices used on school grounds.

Here are the key points of the SVUSD AUP:

  • Educational Purposes Only: All technology resources must be used for educational purposes consistent with the District's educational goals.
  • Responsible Conduct: Students are expected to behave respectfully and responsibly online, following the same guidelines as offline conduct.
  • Safety and Security: The AUP emphasizes student safety and security when using online resources. Students are encouraged to report any safety or security concerns immediately to staff.
  • Privacy: Students should be aware that information posted or shared through the internet is not private and may be monitored. Personal information should not be shared without adult permission.
  • Prohibited Actions: The policy strictly prohibits actions such as violating copyright laws, introducing malicious software, impersonating others, sharing credentials, accessing inappropriate content, engaging in cyberbullying, and attempting to bypass security measures.
  • Cyberbullying: Cyberbullying is not tolerated and can lead to severe disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
  • Monitoring and Disclosure: School and District employees may monitor the use of information technology resources to ensure compliance with the policy.  Administrators reserve the right to examine and disclose information and/or data found on a student's device in order to promote health, safety, discipline, or security.
  • Consequences: Misuse of school resources may result in disciplinary action, including loss of technology privileges, and/or other actions as outlined in the SVUSD Discipline Handbook.

Key aspects of student responsibility

  • They must report problems with devices promptly.
  • They are responsible for backing up their data.
  • They should not install unauthorized applications or modify device hardware/software.
  • They must follow specific guidelines for cell phone usage, including restrictions during class time.
